10,000 women are set to benefit from tricycles and motorcycles loan under the 10,000 Women in Mobility programme, launched by the Federal Government,aimed at empowering women across Nigeria.
Speaking during the launch and handover of the mobility assets on Friday, Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman Ibrahim emphasized the importance of providing economic support to women.
She added that economic empowerment programes enables women to participate in transportation, logistics, delivery services, and other mobility-related ventures, boosting both their financial independence and economic participation.
The minister said President Tinubu has a goal of a $1 trillion economy which involves creating economic spaces for women as well as carrying them along in every initiative and activity.
“Because women are over 50 per cent of the population of this country, and they participate across sectors, so we will like to strengthen their participation so that it translates into value, not just for them and their families, but for the country at large.” she said.
She noted that the pilot phase conducted in Abuja has already handed over vehicles to 1000 women with the prograe set to expand nationwide targeting 10,000 beneficiaries.
“It’s an economic empowerment. It’s how much they drive it and how many hours they put into it. There’s no economic effort that is a chicken feed” she added
She added that the initiative would help women build credible financial histories, which can unlock future access to credit.
