A coalition of civil society groups has declared support for the reform of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), saying the reform will boost the economy of the country.

The Spokesman of the coalition, Mr Bello Gambo said, the coalition comprising 163 civil society groups appreciates and supports the impending bold and courageous reform of Petroleum Industry Bill of the NNPC and the oil industry.

Mr Gambo in a statement made available to reporters in Abuja on Saturday explained that the coalition organised a conference on Tuesday and Wednesday in Kano and Abuja.

According to him, the conference will serve as an opportunity for the civil society groups to discuss the importance of the reform and also to declare their total support for the reform.

According to him, “the conference will critically examine the impending reform with the view of assessing and making recommendations on positive contributions it will make to the economy of the country”.

“The coalition appreciates the Group Managing Director of NNPC Mr Mele Kyari, Minister of state for petroleum Mr Timipre Sylva and President Muhammadu Buhari”, Mr Bello revealed.
