Gunmen abduct Principal, Vice Principal, teachers and dozens of students in Zamfara

Hundreds of bike riding gunmen suspected to be armed bandits have invaded Government Day Secondary School in Kaya town under Maradun local government area of Zamfara State abducted the school Principal, Vice Principal and unidentified number of students.

A resident of the affected Kaya town who preferred anonymous spoke with our reporter, saying, the bandits stormed the town and surrounded the school while the students were seated waiting for slated time to write a JLC examination, and just started shooting sporadically to scare away any rescue movements.

He said, “The next to hear was completely heartbreaking as the students started shouting louder enough for help, but nothing one could do to arrest the situation rather than witnessing people running helter skelter into every direction for safety, the unfortunate development gave chance for the bandits to continue with their operation unchallenged”.

Another survivor narrated that, the bandits remained in the school for nearly an hour before they arranged both the students and the teachers in columns and disappeared into the nearby bushes to yet to be identified destination.

This was coming just few days after the abducted students of Bakura College of Agriculture and Science were released through the efforts by the State Government and the security agencies in the state.

In a swift reaction, Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle has announced an immediate restrictions of all movements across the state from 6:pm to 6:am in the remote local government areas whereas movements in Gusau the state capital were restricted from 8:pm to 6:am respectively.

Until compiling in this report, efforts were made to hear from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Shehu Mohammed, but declined to pick phone calls, only later that he texted back that he could not talk at the moment, “Sorry, I couldn’t talk now”.
