Federal government has launched 218 modern digital equipment centres across the 36 states of the country to support the digital economy in schools.
The digital centres aim at providing e-Learning facilities through the establishment of a State-of-the-Art Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure and modern teaching content.
The minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Social Protection, Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouk said on Tuesday in Kano during the launching of the project held at Government Secondary School Rano, explained that the project is to serve as a one-stop-shop environment for students in public Secondary Schools to have access to digital and updated learning materials in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
According to her, the project will develop their ICT skills including the use of the Internet for various purposes.
The Minister who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry Mr Baba Alkali said “the center is equipped with modern digital equipment and a total of 218 of such schools all over the 36 States and FCT are equipped with these digital gadgets”.
According to her, “Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) is a project strategically conceived to provide a technical platform that would aid modern teaching and learning on Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics to students in some carefully selected Federal and State-owned Science/Technical Secondary Schools Nationwide”.
“I must at this juncture thank His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari for his administration’s determined focus and in the spirit of inclusion towards the development of our young people in the digital economy which the STEM project targets at”.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Education in Kano state, Mr Muhammad Sanusi Kiru said the intervention of the federal government to the state government on educational activities contributed immensely towars teaching and learning environments.
Mr Kiru explained that 12, 000 women vendors are currently cooking foods for the 2.1 million pupils in the state.
According to him, the state government received 1.3 eating bowls for the feeding of the pupils across the state.
He assured that the government will continue to give much attention and support to the education sectors across the state.
