Senior Islamic clerics in Kano state have rejected the removal of Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil as Chairman of Council of Ulama.
Their rejection came hours after the announcement of Sheikh Khalil removal by a faction in the council and his replacement with Sheikh Saleh Pakistan on Monday.
The clerics, under the auspices of Coalition of Ulama and Islamic Organizations in Kano State, had distanced themselves from impeaching Khalil as Chairman of the council.
In a letter, dated October 12 and signed by Dr Saidu Dukawa, on behalf of eight other members, the coalition said it is not party to sacking Ibrahim Khalil as Chairman.
“we are not party to the decision and we do not support it.
“The leaders of the council always follow means to ensure peace in the council, but this decision goes contrary to our course.
” We therefore called on the general public to disregard any move capable of disrupting the relative peace being enjoyed in the state. We urge people to continue to maintain peace in our dear state and shun anything that would be a threat to our peaceful coexistence,” the letter, written in Hausa reads said.
The signatories of the letter include, Prof. Musa Borodo, Sheikh Karibullah Nasiru-Kabara, Sheikh Abdulwahab Abdallah and Sheikh Ibrahim Maihula.
Others include Prof. Muhammad Muhammad, Dr Bashir Aliyu, Imam Nasir Adam, Dr Ibrahim Maibushira and Dr Saidu Dukawa.
