Police rescue 5 students, 19 other kidnap victims in Zamfara

In it’s bid to end banditry and other criminal activities, the Zamfara State Police Command has succeeded in the rescue of five students alongside 19 other travelers who were kidnapped by the armed bandits.

Handing over the rescued victims to the State Government, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ayuba Elkana, said Tactical Operatives deployed to various locations in the state have succeeded in rescuing 24 kidnap victims in Shinkafi and Tsafe local government areas.

Among the rescued victims as according to CP Elkana, were four students of the Government Day Secondary School Birnin Yero in Shinkafi local government area who were writing WAEC examinations, and one other student from Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda.

The CP further notes that, “On 22nd November 2021, Police Tactical Operatives deployed along Shinkafi axis, while on search and rescue operations with regard to abduction of the students Birnin Yero and other victims.

“The Police acted on intelligence information and rescued the students along with eight others who spent sixty days in captivity have now been rescued unconditionally and were medically checked and debriefed by the Police after which they would reunite with their families.

He further warned the general public to for the sake of ensuring their lives are well protected, to avoid night journeys as most of the times criminals block roads and abduct during odd hours.

Receiving the rescued victims, Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle who was represented by the state Commissioner of Information, Ibrahim Magaji Dosara and the Special Adviser on Security, Abubakar Dauran, assured continued measures with a view to make Zamfara crime-free state.
