Jigawa launch guidelines for medical management of sexual gender violence victims

The Jigawa state government with support from IPAS Nigeria has launched the standards and guidelines for the medical management of victims of sexual gender base violence in the state.

Speaking at the launch of the guidelines which held on Tuesday at manpower development institute Dutse, the IPAS country director Mr Lucky Palmer said, the move was achieved in collaboration with Jigawa state executive, lagislators, media,CSOs, traditional and religious leaders.

Palmer explained that, the guidelines will serve as a tools to guide in the management of victims and ensure a speedy prosecution of the perpetrators.

He said, the guidelines will help healthcare personnel on managing the victims before and after taken to the hospital emotionally as well as the roles of each stakeholders like police, media, CSOs, traditional and religious leaders and schools management on how to handle the sexual gender violence cases.

While making his remarks, the permanent secretary Jigawa state ministry of health who was represented by the executive secretary Jigawa state primary healthcare development agency Dr Kabiru Ibrahim commended IPAS, Jigawa state Assembly and other stakeholders for the passage of VAPP law in the state.

Also speaking, the member representing Garki constituency and deputy chairman committee on health in the state Assembly honourable Law an Garba Muhammad urged for more public enlightenment and sensitization of citizens for a successful implementation of VAPP law and guidelines.
