The Zamfara State chapter of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned in clear terms the huge sum of money been special gift given to a winner of just concluded local wrestling competition in Niger Republic by Governor Bello Matawalle .

In a press conference by the PDP state Chairman, Colonel Bala Mande (rtd), who was represented by his deputy, Professor Kabir Umar Jabaka, lamented the Governor’s decision to travel outside the country simply to watch wrestling leaving behind his bleeding state.

The Chairman further cried that, over 50 innocent people were merciless killed just within three days, while hundred thousands of citizens are currently taking refuge helplessly at naturally established places across the state including Gusau the state capital.

“We found it necessary to speak the minds of the weaker citizens of Zamfara State, especially for those taking refuge are living in hardship, they need food, medical care, IDPs camps where they will be given much needed care with a view for them to acquire sense of belonging.

“As opposition party, we wonder why the attitude of Governor Matawalle-led administration remains care-free about the boiling situation of the state with regard to prevailing security challenges and the abject poverty in which people of the state found themselves.

“Matawalle should not pretend that he is not aware of the primary responsibility of government is to provide security to legitimate livings, as well as providing adequate protection to properties of the people in the state, there should not be dictatorship in running the affairs of the state”, Prof. Jabaka has challenged.

The Chairman further called on the Governor to do away with politics in handling the issue of security in the state, adding that, the state’s economy is ruined, people could not afford 3 square meals a day, as lives are being lost to bandits and their houses were torched while several others are kidnapped for ransom on daily basis”.
