OCCEN sensitizes Youths on participation in politics

A non governmental organisation popularly known as Organisation for Community Civic Engagement of Nigeria (OCCEN) with support from National Endowment for Democracy called for youths and women participation in politics.

The called was made by the executive director OCCEN comrade Abdurraq Alqali during a panel discussion for inspiring the aspiring young politicians in Jigawa state, held at manpower development institute Dutse.

Comrade Alqali who insist that, it is right time for Youths and women to fully participate in politics as according to him, youths carried majority of Nigeria’s population.

According to him, youths also are engines of any development as well as the back bones of any community, there is need for their inclusion in politics for a vibrant and better leadership in Jigawa and the country at large.

The executive director, said more than 70 percent of registered votes are youths while about 42 percent are women but still youths and women are left behind in holding political offices in Nigeria.

“OCCEN with support from National Endowment for Democracy realize the gaps of in adequate recognition of youths and women in politics and decided to embarked on massive sensitization for enlighten youths to know their roles in politics for better participation” Alqali said.

He then urged the participants to share the knowledge acquired during the discussion with their colleagues at down level for better participation in politics.

While making his remarks, one of the panel discussants Dr Mu’azu Abdullahi commanded OCCEN for organising the event adding that youths have a better role to play in politics for better Nigeria.
