The Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB), in collaboration with the Historical Society of Nigeria (HSN) Northeast zone, has hosted the 2024 zonal Conference at the Tukur Buratai Institute for War and Peace, Borno state.
A statement signed and made available to our Correspondent by the Public Relation Officer of the University, Rabiu Hassan Ismaeel, stated that the conference featured presentation of awarded to various people across the country as well as the Induction of new members.
The statement also indicated that the former Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai (rtd), presented a paper titled, “Borno in Contemporary History and the Role of Tukur Buratai Institute for War and Peace”.
The paper highlighted the historical evolution of Borno State, insurgency, challenges, and the successes recorded in the fight against terrorism.
The institute’s role in documenting and preserving historical items used in the fight against insurgency was also emphasized in the paper.
Other speakers at the conference who presented papers were, Professor Talla Ngarka and Professor Samuel O Aghalino, the President of the HSN.
The event witnessed the first student induction ceremony in the Northeast of final-year History students from NAUB into the HSN.
Awards of excellence were presented to distinguished fellows, including Lt Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai (rtd), Vice Chancellor of NAUB Prof Kyari Mohammed, President of HSN Prof Samuel O Aghalino, Prof Talla Ngarka, Brig Gen A Dadan Garba (rtd), and Brig Gen HY Abdulhamid.
There was also a facility tour of the institute’s museum which concluded the conference.
