2025 Legal Week: NBA Assures Ethical Practices for Faster Justice Delivery in Jigawa

From Mika’il Tsoho, Dutse

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Dutse Branch, has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding strong ethical practices to enhance speedy justice delivery in Jigawa State.

Branch Chairman, Esq. Mustapha M. Kashim, made this pledge during his address at the 2025 Law Week celebration held at M Town Hotel, Dutse.

Kashim said this year’s theme, “Upholding Justice Through Ethical Advocacy,” aims to encourage lawyers to uphold their duty to the court and embrace ethical advocacy as a tool for efficient justice delivery.

According to him, the branch is determined to strengthen the state’s legal system through continuous training and retraining of law practitioners, for the benefit of both the system and the people.

He commended Governor Malam Umar Namadi for his support and concern for the legal system in Jigawa.

In his remarks, Governor Namadi praised the NBA’s unity and professionalism.

“I have, for several months, followed with keen interest and admiration how you have administered and organized the State NBA Branch into a unified and formidable platform serving the positive interest of the legal profession and the esteemed learned members of the Association in Jigawa State and beyond,” he said.

The governor lauded the association for promoting the rule of law, ensuring access to justice for all including the less privileged and promoting smooth dispensation of justice in the state.

He described the theme of the Law Week as apt, noting that it reinforces the importance of ethical considerations in ensuring access to justice and eliminating practices that could hinder justice delivery.

Highlighting his administration’s reforms in the justice sector, Namadi mentioned the establishment of Community Law Centres, the introduction of Zauren Sulhu, plans to scale up Citizen Rights Units in Judicial Divisions, among other initiatives.

He urged stakeholders to discharge their duties conscientiously, reminding them of their accountability to “the fear of our Creator, WHO is Al-Adl (the Utterly Just) and Al-Hakam (the Ultimate Judge and Arbiter).”

Governor Namadi concluded by wishing the NBA a successful Law Week and expressed hope that the deliberations would significantly contribute to upholding ethical standards in the legal profession and promoting smooth justice delivery in Jigawa State.
