From Sani Gazas Chinade, Damaturu

A Senior Technical Adviser and Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at FHI 360/Alive & Thrive, Mr. Duke Lawrence Ogbokor, has praised the Yobe State Government for creating a conducive environment that enabled the successful execution of the organization’s mandate in the state.

Mr. Ogbokor made the commendation on Tuesday in Damaturu during the project closeout event for “Accelerating the Scale-Up of Maternal, Infant, and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) Interventions in Nigeria.”

He acknowledged the support from the Yobe State Government in accepting the three Community-Based Officers (CBOs) who oversaw the organization’s operations in the state, which greatly contributed to improvements in maternal, infant, and young child nutrition.

During the three-year project, the organization focused on strengthening the health system by building the capacity of healthcare workers to enhance the quality of life for mothers and children.

In his opening remarks, the Yobe State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Mohammed Lawan Gana, represented by the Director of Public Health, Dr. Hauwa Goni, noted that the partnership with FHI 360 had positively impacted the state.

It has raised awareness among community members, families, focal persons, as well as religious and traditional leaders, about the causes of malnutrition.

Dr. Gana highlighted that the organization also supported the state in training healthcare workers, including doctors, nurses, midwives, and other community health workers.

He assured that the state is committed to sustaining the project’s gains, with strategic and operational plans already in place for nutrition.

In their separate remarks, the Executive Secretary of the State Primary Health Care Management Board, Dr. Babagana Kundi Machina, and the State Coordinator of NAFDAC, Lawan Musa Dadingelma, commended FHI 360 for its support, emphasizing the project’s vital role in safeguarding the health of mothers and children.

At the event, FHI 360 donated various equipment to the Yobe State Government, including monitoring and evaluation data tools, phones, Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials, and MIYCN-related equipment.
