The Adamawa state government has purchased 1,500 meric tonnes (50 trucks) of parboiled rice worth N1.4 billion for onward sale to it’s citizens at a subsidized rate .
Secretary of the state government and Chairman, state palliative coordination and distribution Committee, Barrister Auwal Tukur made the disclosure at a press conference in Yola Monday stressing that, all arrangements for distribution of food and non food palliatives have been concluded and would hit the ground soon.
Tukur announced that out of the total number of the 50 trucks (trailers),5(five) have been received awaiting the arrival of the remaining 45 trailers for subsequent distribution to the masses solely to curshion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal in the country.
Tukur explained that the Committee have since been grouped in to various sub-committees to ease the coordination as well as the distribution of the palliatives which will be on the basis of number of political wards across the 21 local government areas in the state.
He added that another Federal government’s food intervention of 150 trucks (trailers) of maize is expected in to the state from Kaduna state noting that same method of selling at a subsidized rate will also be applied.
He confirmed that the state government has officially received N2 billion out of the N5billion Federal government’s fuel subsidy removal palliative saying that it was received as “a loan” which already N1.4billion was used to procured the said parboiled rice.
Tukur however stated that on the non food palliatives, the Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s led administration has procured 10 units of brand new Innoson 58-seater luxurious buses to ease transportation challenges facing the masses in the state.
According to him the purchased IVM buses were valued worth N1.060billion (One billion and sixty million Naira) respectively and will be use to ease transportation problems in different routes or locations in the state.
He therefore urges the people to support and corperate with the government for good policies that would touch the lives of all and sundry.
It could be recalled that the state government inaugurated a 20-man fuel subsidy removal coordination and distribution Committee on the 23th August with a sole mandate to ensure transparent, equitable and fair distributed of the palliatives to the masses in the state.
