Adamawa Senator Clarifies Status of Bill for Federal University of Education, Numan

From Umar Dankano, Yola

The Senator representing Adamawa Southern Senatorial District, Binos Dauda Yaroe, has refuted speculations that the bill for the establishment of the Federal University of Education, Numan, was rejected by the presidency.

Amidst social media reports suggesting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had declined the bill to establish the institution in Numan Local Government Area, the senator clarified during a stakeholders’ feedback meeting in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area that the presidency did not reject the bill but instead requested some corrections.

Yaroe reaffirmed his commitment to addressing the clerical errors identified in the bill to ensure its approval. He explained that the president pointed out certain constitutional inconsistencies, including an error in assigning land authority to the governor instead of the president, who is the rightful visitor of the institution.

According to him, these adjustments are necessary for the bill to align with the law, and once the corrections are made, the president is expected to give his assent. He assured his constituents that the necessary amendments would be completed and the bill would be resubmitted once the Senate reconvenes.

During the meeting, the senator also provided an update on his legislative and constituency efforts. He highlighted his contributions to community development, including the drilling of boreholes to improve access to clean water, the provision of free healthcare services, and the facilitation of infrastructure projects.

He spoke about his efforts in awarding scholarships to students, empowering farmers, and training youths in solar installations to address power supply challenges. Additionally, he noted his role in securing transformers for various communities and creating job opportunities for young people.

Yaroe emphasized the importance of accountability and engagement with the people he represents. He stated that convening such meetings allows him to share his achievements, gather feedback, and listen to suggestions from constituents.

The event was attended by key stakeholders, including the Adamawa State Commissioner of Entrepreneurship, Comrade Haman Jumba Gatugel, retired permanent secretaries, local leaders, and coordinators of Senator Yaroe’s campaign team from the nine local government areas within the Southern Senatorial District.

They commended the senator for his sincerity and commitment to development, offering prayers and recommendations for further progress in the district.
