The family of Ado Bayero has issued a statement addressing widespread speculation about the relocation of their daughter’s wedding to Abuja.
The bride, Maryam Nasir Ado Bayero, is set to marry Jibrin (Abba) Barau I Jibrin, son of the Deputy President of the Senate, on Friday, December 13, 2024.
The statement, signed by Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan Agundi, Sarkin Dawaki Babba of Kano, clarified that the decision to move the wedding from Kano to Abuja was made solely by the bride’s family for logistical reasons.
“It is important to state that the relocation of the wedding venue was entirely the decision of our family, and not influenced by the groom’s family or any political considerations,” Dan Agundi explained.
Refuting claims circulating on social media, the family dismissed reports that linked the change of venue to tensions surrounding the Tax Reform Bills.
“The decision was taken weeks ago to accommodate the convenience of numerous dignitaries from across Nigeria and abroad who expressed interest in attending the ceremony,” the statement read.
The family emphasized that the wedding arrangements should not be politicized. “Marriage is a significant matter in our religion and part of the Sunnah of our Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). We urge those spreading unfounded rumors to desist immediately,” Dan Agundi added.
The statement reaffirmed the family’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful and joyous celebration while respecting the sanctity of marriage traditions.
