ALGION Honours Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as Best Supportive Governor in Grassroots Information Development

The Association of Local Government Information Officers in Nigeria (ALGION) has honoured Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, with an award of excellence in recognition of his outstanding support for grassroots information development and effective governance.

This is contained in a statement Signed by Idris Zakariya’u Director, Public Enlightenment Kano State Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs on Thursday .

The award presentation took place on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, in Abuja during the association’s annual national conference, which drew participation from information officers across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Presenting the award, the National President of ALGION, Comrade Jibril Aliyu Bisallah, said Governor Yusuf was selected for the honour in view of his reformative and transformative policies in information management at the grassroots level.

“We are witnesses to the unprecedented transformation of the information management system in Kano State through various initiatives of the NNPP-led administration. These include continuous manpower development through capacity building, enrolment of information officers into professional bodies, and the provision of a conducive working environment with the necessary tools for effective information management,” Bisallah noted.

He further highlighted that the Yusuf administration has not only improved the information ecosystem in Kano but also transformed lives through massive infrastructure projects. According to him, Kano has recorded notable achievements in road construction, renovation of schools and hospitals, building of bridges, and other critical infrastructure, alongside enhanced welfare packages and manpower development for civil servants.

“Considering these unmatched achievements, we found Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf worthy of this year’s award of excellence,” Bisallah added.

Receiving the award on behalf of the governor, the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, expressed appreciation to the association, describing the award as merit-based and devoid of sentiment.

The commissioner reaffirmed the commitment of the Yusuf administration to continue prioritizing grassroots information management, effective communication, and developmental projects that directly impact the lives of Kano residents.
