There is palpable anxiety in Kano as residents of the commercial city await the judgement of the Supreme Court in the appeal filed by Governor Abba Yusuf challenging the verdicts of the Tribunal and the Court of Appeal.
Both the Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal and the Court of Appeal Court had voided Governor Yusuf’s election and declared the APC candidate,Dr Nasiru Gawuna, as the winner of the governorship election.
The Supreme Court had fixed Tomorrow, Friday, as the day it will deliver judgement in the appeal case, which is generating tension and fear, especially among supporters of the ruling party, the NNPP, and the opposition party, the APC in the state.
Checks around the ancient city revealed that supporters of both parties and other residents of the town are apprehensive about the impending judgement, with many of them taking panic measures in anticipation of the Supreme Court judgement.
Part of such measures is the decision of some parents not to allow their children to go school on the judgment day “for fear of the unknown.”
It was also gathered that many businesses, including markets and shopping malls may not open on Friday, also for fear of “what the court verdict may bring.”
Many other residents,it was further gathered, have decided to remain indoors and monitor the reactions of people to the judgement from their respective abodes, and probably come out later in the day to digest the court verdict.
Meanwhile, wild celebrations are already being expected by whichever of the two sides the Supreme Court judgement favours,as both supporters of the NNPP and APC have already stockpiled food, drinks and drums in anticipation of “a favourable judgement.”
Some of them have been praying individually and in congregation, asking God to give them victory at the Court on Friday.
