As part of its efforts to encourage teaching and learning at the grassroots level, the Association of Primary School Head Teachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON), Yobe State chapter, has honored a deserving education stakeholder with an award for outstanding performance in the outgoing year.
The award was presented to the Education Secretary of Nguru Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), Alhaji Hamisu Ado, by the Nguru chapter of AOPSHON.
During the presentation ceremony, the outgoing Chairman of AOPSHON, who is now the Secretary of the Local Chapter of the National Union of Teachers (NUT), Nguru branch, Mallam Garba Badamasi, along with the Deputy Chairman of NUT Nguru chapter, Mallam Sabiu Sabo, commended Alhaji Hamisu Ado for his remarkable contributions to the education sector in Nguru.
Mallam Garba Badamasi stated, “We are presenting this award to Alhaji Hamisu Ado in recognition of his outstanding performance and dedication to the growth and development of the education sector across Nguru Local Government Area. He has shown exemplary leadership and commitment to improving education in every corner of the local government.”
He further added, “We trust that the Secretary will continue to leverage his expertise, experience, and positive relationships with donor agencies, particularly international NGOs, to promote teaching and learning in the area.”
Upon receiving the award, Alhaji Hamisu Ado expressed his gratitude and dedicated the honor to the entire Yobe State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) management team, particularly the Chairman, Mallam Umaru Hassan Babayo, as well as the staff of Nguru LGEA.
Ado said, “This achievement would not have been possible without the support, contributions, and advice of my team. I dedicate this award to all of them.”
Speaking at the event, Mallam Garba Mohammed Umar, a facilitator with the United Nations Children’s Support Fund (UNICEF), emphasized the importance of Self-School Evaluation (SSE) for effective school management.
He urged all head teachers present to take the initiative seriously, saying, “Conducting Self-School Evaluation is like looking in a mirror to identify areas that need improvement before presenting your school’s achievements on a broader stage.”
