From Abdullahi Alhassan, Bauchi
The Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has dissolved all Area Education Officers and School Support Officers across the twenty Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
The SUBEB Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mohammed Duguri, announced the dissolution during an engagement with Education Secretaries from the twenty LGAs in Bauchi.
In a statement issued by the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Isah Mohammed Jungudo, the Chairman explained that those affected by the dissolution also include Arabic and Christian visiting teachers, Early Child Care Development and Education (ECCDE) supervisors, and library supervisors under the Local Education Authorities (LEAs).
According to Alhaji Duguri, the dissolution forms part of ongoing reforms aimed at overhauling the state’s education monitoring and supervision structures to ensure more effective service delivery.
He directed relevant departments within SUBEB and the LEAs to ensure a smooth transition process, particularly with safeguarding records and ongoing initiatives.
Going forward, only School Support Officers appointed through UBEC/SUBEB and the LEAs will be recognized for the role.
The Chairman further disclosed that new guidelines for appointing School Support Officers have been developed to standardize and improve the selection process. These guidelines, he said, would be distributed to all LEAs to enhance the quality and consistency of support provided to schools.
Alhaji Duguri emphasized that the reforms are designed to strengthen educational oversight, improve service delivery, and enhance learning outcomes across schools in the state.
He directed all affected officers to report immediately to their respective LGEA headquarters for further assessment and documentation.
