The pardon was in the spirit of the commemoration of 30 years anniversary of the creation of Jigawa State and it followed an earlier recommendation by the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy under the leadership of Dr. Aisha Haruna Warshu (Mrs.). The council met and screened the convicts and the pardon was granted to deserving inmates.

Seventy-Four (74) of the inmates were granted executive pardon while Five (5) detainees at the pleasure of the Governor have their sentences suspended.

The Governor further enjoined the pardoned inmates to turn a new leaf and restart afresh so that their communities would be proud of them.
