Comrade Nura Iro Ma’aji: Public Servant par excellence

In today’s politics, where dividends of democratic governance are shared by a few individuals for personal benefits, commitment is rare, and unprofessionalism has become the order of the day.

It gladdens to have true giants like Comrade Nura Iro Ma’aji, the Kano State Commissioner of Public Procurement, Monitoring and Evaluation. His endless commitments and selfless service deserves deep and real appreciation.

A Selfless Commissioner

A technocrat, Ma’aji always put the public’s needs as his priority. He monitors ongoing and completed contracts and projects daily to ensure effective service delivery as well as ensuring quality work in rural and urban areas.

One of his notable commitments is the inspection of 5-Kilometer Roads across the 44 Local Government Areas of Kano state, renovation and upgrading of primary healthcare centers to general hospital status, which were re-introduced and expanded under His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Ma’aji’s ‘Key Performance Indicators’ (KPIs)

Being a development and project specialist, Comrade Ma’aji’s role is undoubtedly—like appointing a subject matter expert in public projects, to the good people of Kano State, not only meeting project completion level within the time-frame, but also ensuring quality and standard matters. Projects with long impact would be assured.

However, to mention a few and rapid success, Ma’aji from his appointment and swearing-in as a Honourable Commissioner and a Member of Kano State Executive Council on 6th January, 2025, he visited and inspected over 50 major projects being executed in the State. These projects have earned recognitions and awards to the Executive Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Nonetheless, Comrade Ma’aji is a beacon of good governance in practice and an active leader, public administrator and project monitoring and evaluation expert, trained by international and local Non-profit Organizations.

In Ma’aji, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has found a trusted hand, whose slogan is “Let me serve, let me work for the betterment of Kano State.
