Crisis Rocks Yola Federal Civil Service Club: Head of Service Urged to Intervene
From Umar Dankano, Yola
Aggrieved members of the Heads of Federal Establishment Association in Adamawa state have called on the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Yemi Folashade, to intervene in the crisis rocking the leadership of the Union in the state.
The crisis stems from the composition of an interim committee to handle the activities of the Union in Adamawa state, which has been alleged to have exceeded the constitutional provisions of the Union’s constitution. Two individuals have been holding on to leadership positions as a ‘caretaker committee’ and have refused to conduct elections for proper leadership.
In a letter addressed to Dr. Folashade, the aggrieved members are seeking the enforcement of an immediate conduct of free and fair elections to end the alleged era of self-imposed interim leadership since the club was commissioned in December 2022.
The letter states, “All we want is for justice and rule of law to prevail. We only want proper elections. Enough is enough! Our mother, the Head of Civil Service (Mrs. Folashade), please come to our rescue as the present interim managers have boasted they are well connected in Abuja.”
The aggrieved members also decried that the two-man interim committee constituted by the Director Occupational Health Safety and Environment, Dr. Comfort Adeosun, has banned all federal civil servants in Adamawa from membership of the club. Furthermore, they alleged that monies generated by the club are being paid into personal accounts, rather than a dedicated bank account.
Investigations by the aggrieved members revealed that Dr. Adeosun brought a questionable and fraudulent letter dated November 27th, 2023, claiming to be acting on the instructions of Dr. Folashade (HOCSF) constituting the embattled two-man interim committee.
The letter reads, “I am directed to convey the approval of the Head of the Federal Civil Service of the Federation for the constitution of an interim management of the Federal Civil Service Club Yola, Adamawa State, with Marshall Johnson as Publicity Secretary and Ayuba Mboh as Secretary-General.”
The aggrieved members also accused Dr. Adeosun’s interim committee of refusing to register all heads of federal establishments and other senior federal civil servants as members, citing the lack of ID cards and the need for endorsement from the Director Human Resources in their headquarters in Abuja to be members.
All efforts to reach out to Dr. Adeosun for her response at the time of filing this report proved abortive.
It is recalled that the Federal Civil Service Club was commissioned on December 7th, 2022, by the Head of Federal Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folashade Yemi, for federal civil service workers in Adamawa State.”
