Dr. Kabiru Zawachiki Addresses Water Scarcity in Kumbotso Communities

By Abdullahi Muhammad Sheka, Kano

As part of efforts to address the long-standing water scarcity in Sheka, Kureke, and surrounding areas, the caretaker chairman of Kumbotso Local Government, Dr. Kabiru Hussaini Zawachiki, has provided potable drinking water to these communities. The initiative, which has cost over 200 million Naira, aims to supply water to the villages of Dan Tsinke, Sheka, ‘Yan Shana, and Mai Sango, all within the Kumbotso Local Government Area.

Recognizing the essential role water plays in sustaining life, Dr. Zawachiki emphasized his administration’s commitment to ensuring that residents have access to clean water. “Water is life,” he remarked, emphasizing  the importance of this project.

The chairman noted that due to the increasing population, negligence by some stakeholders, and challenges with power supply, many residents in these areas have faced persistent water scarcity. He reiterated the local government’s dedication to responding to the needs of the people, stating, “It is a tradition of this government to be responsive to the urgent calls from residents, particularly in providing them with potable water.”

Dr. Zawachiki acknowledged the severity of the water scarcity issue, which has plagued these communities for many years. “It is very unfortunate that some residents have been battling water problems for so long,” he said. “We believe the time has come, under our leadership, to address this problem squarely, as it has caused significant hardship for many.”

He informed the communities that water supply has now been extended from the main service center to Dan Tsinke, Sheka, Sabuwar Abuja, and Karshen Kwalta, bringing much-needed relief to the residents. “People are now enjoying the benefits of this significant initiative,” Zawachiki added.

Additionally, in another development, the residents of Kwanar ‘Yan Shana and Mai Sango, along with their surrounding areas, are also benefiting from this initiative. The provision of potable drinking water to these areas is currently in progress, further demonstrating the chairman’s commitment to improving the quality of life for all residents in Kumbotso Local Government Area.
