Early Cancer diagnosis saves live – Expert

The Chairman Oncology, Manipal Health Enterprise, Prof. Dr. Somashekar, said early diagnosis of Cancer helps in preventing serious outcome of the ailment.

Dr. Somashekar was speaking virtually during an Oncology workshop organised by Manipal Hospitals India, for members of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)on Tuesday

The Cancer expert explained that the aim of the workshop was to help people understand the importance of early diagnosis of Cancer and the various treatment available for the disease.

According to the medical expert, with technological advancements and innovations reaching a new dimension in the field of oncology, such as Robotics and other methods are available to easily diagnose the tumour before the Cancer reaches an advanced stage.

While explaining on various advanced Chemotherapy and surgical procedures available for the treatment, Dr. Somashekar S.P, insisted that “Prevention is better than cure”.

He however explained to the Journalists on the importance of maintaining “A healthy lifestyle and healthy diet which can help prevent Cancer”.

Contributing, Mr. Karthik Rajagopal, who is the Chief Operating Officer,of the same outfit commended the participants for making the session very interactive.
According to him, “The present pandemic taught us the importance of building a global network of healthcare ecosystem which will help us to bridge the gaps in the healthcare chain. With this aim, we are planning on conducting many of such workshops which will let us share our knowledge and also help us in learning insights from the global healthcare ecosystem.

Adding, such workshops in the future will cater to different centre(s) of excellence and do our part in making quality healthcare accessible to the global community”.

In his remarks, President, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Christopher Isiguzo, admonished Journalists on the need to maintain a good health lifestyle and to also have regular check- up and proper screening to avoid being caught up with the disease, saying that health is wealth, therefore, should be taking seriously.

He said, “This Association did not only benefit us but will also help people of Nigeria lead a healthy lifestyle”
The National secretary of the NUJ, Mr. Shuaibu Usman Leman, expressed gratitude for identifying with one of the most respected hospital brands in the world for their medical advice and knowledge from experienced Doctors of Manipal Hospitals, he however assured of continues mutual relationship.
