Federal Varsity Daura Prepares Staffers on Legal Challenges

The Federal University of Transportation, Daura under the leadership of its pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Hon. Prof. Umar Adam Katsayal, has organized its first capacity building workshop for both academic and non-teaching staff of the University on legal matters handle.

During the two-day capacity building workshop titled “The Role of Management in the Prevention of Avoidable Litigations in courts Arising from Poor Handling of Disciplinary Cases in Nigeria Public Universities”.

The workshop as according to the statement by the Chief Information and Communication Officer of the University, Malam Umar Usman and made it available to newsmen in Gusau Zamfara State capital, was organized by the University in collaboration with A.A. Dogara & Co.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, Barrister Ibrahim A. Azara who is the Principal Partner, A.A. Dogara & Co, expressed his profound gratitude to Almighty God who made it possible for the August event to take place.

“The Universities are the depositories and propagators of the highest social, ethical, and cultural values of the Society, and centers of research and teaching where the cardinal prerequisites include academic brilliance with unimpeachable integrity.

“It is a sector development resource and the most important input of the production process for a knowledge-based economy, focusing on teaching, research, information transfer, and technology development to bring economic prosperity.

“Universities as academic and moral training grounds have the unique opportunity to initiate and sustain the moral revival that is so desperately needed in our nation today, especially discipline”, he said.

He further highlighted that academic activities are now part of increasingly complex services in which academics and non-teaching working in academic environment consciously or unconsciously encounter some legal challenges affecting their work.

“Clearly globalization, networking, technology especially in an enlightened Community such as FUTD, Staff and Students are conscious and will become more conscious of their rights and are continually raising up questions of academic and legal standards and duty of care and one of the most profound questions is of law and ethics in an academic environment”, he further explained.

He stated that while taking actions on violators of Universities’ laws, regulations and statutes, the University staff must as well be conscious of what their actions or inactions may cause.

Delivering his address, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Hon. Prof. Umar Adam Katsayal, has stressed that his administration would continue to pay attention to staff training and development as these are very paramount to the development of any organization, especially the newly established like the FUTD.

The Vice-Chancellor further called on the participants to pay attention to the presentation so that they could get the best out of them.
