Fika Emir Urges Yobe’s Internal Revenue Service to Block Leakages

From Sani Gazas Chinade, Damaturu

The Emir of Fika, Dr. Muhammadu Abali Ibn Muhammadu Idrisa, has urged the Yobe State Internal Revenue Service (YIRS) to block all leakages in the collection process to increase revenue for the state government.

The Royal Father made the call during a courtesy visit by the YIRS staff and management to his palace in Potiskum. He emphasized the importance of efficient tax collection in supporting the government’s development efforts.

“You should double your efforts towards enlightening people on the importance of paying tax as tax revenue is crucial for funding essential services like education, healthcare, and infrastructure. By encouraging tax compliance, you are contributing to the well-being of the entire community” the Emir stressed.

In his response, the Acting Chairman of YIRS, Idris Mohammed Disa, acknowledged the Emir’s concerns and assured him of the agency’s commitment to improving revenue generation. He explained that the YIRS is organizing a sensitization meeting on the Inter State Road Tax Sticker (ISRTS) and Single Haulage Fees (SHFs) to educate stakeholders about these new revenue streams.

“These fees were introduced by the Joint Tax Board (JTB) to simplify tax collection on highways across the country,” Disa stated. “Yobe State, like many other states, has adopted this program, and we believe it will significantly boost our revenue.”

The Emir commended the YIRS for its efforts and pledged his support in mobilizing traditional rulers across the state to encourage tax compliance. He expressed confidence that with everyone’s cooperation, Yobe State could achieve its revenue targets and improve the lives of its citizens.
