Food Security: MWFAAN, NITDA Partner to Host Agri-tech Hackathon

The Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumni Association of Nigeria (MWFAAN) and National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) have formed a strategic partnership to explore digital technology in proffering solutions to the country agricultural challenges.

Both organisations will, through the strategic alliance co-host an Agri-tech Hackathon scheduled to take place on November 20, 2024 at Nile University, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The announcement which was contained in a statement by the MWFAAN on Wednesday also emphasised the potential of the collaboration to promote national food security.

“The Agri-tech Hackathon is offering a unique platform for software developers, agricultural experts/enthusiast, data scientists, entrepreneurs and the academia to collaborate to enhance agricultural productivity and promote national food security.

“It will focus on accelerating the digital transformation in agriculture, addressing key issues such as sustainable farming, harnessing the use of clean energy to power agricultural processes, crop management, food storage and value addition, food supply and distribution efficiency, promoting gender equality and inclusivity in Nigerian agriculture.

“Participants will have the opportunity to work on projects related to data analytics, AI applications, and other technologies that can improve productivity and sustainability in agriculture.

“Our collaboration with NITDA has provided the funding and visibility for the Hackathon. NITDA has introduced MWFAAN and her vision to The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) who are currently supporting the Hackathon” the statement reads in part.
