In efforts to alleviate the suffering and hardship of vulnerable persons in Gombe state, the Zakah and Waqf Foundation, Gombe state has distributed food items to about 200 households to help put smiles on their faces.

In his remarks during the flagg-off of the distributions the Chairman of the foundation Ustaz Abdullahi Abubakar Lamido, said the program is specifically targeted at the poorest of the poor including widows and guardians of orphans.

Abdullahi Abubakar Lamido said that the gesture was in keeping with the Qur’anic motivation to feed the hungry in times of hunger.

He quoted the Quranic verses that says: “Or feeding, on a day of severe hunger, an orphan of near relationship, or a needy person in misery. And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. Those are the companions of the right.” (Qur’an 90:14-18)

Added that given the current situation of hyperinflation and hard economic conditions, most people are experiencing difficulties in accessing what to feed themselves and their families.

Lamodo, called on the well to do individuals to “take positive advantage of their wealth and support the poor and the needy as rewards for feeding the poor are numerous especially in times of socio-economic hardships”.

He further says there is no better time to assist the poor than now. “As we speak now, hundreds of thousands of orphans, widows, vulnerable children, and other destitute are grappling with hunger and starvation. They are not even talking of health , education or other life requirements. Even what to eat is proving nearly impossible for them.

” All those with the means should please take a little of what they have and give to the poor in order to ease their suffering. Only through being merciful to those on earth we can be qualified for the heavenly mercies of the Most Merciful”, He says.

In addition to those who collected their food stuff at the ZAWFOG office, ZAWFOG volunteers, including the Foundation’s Chairman and the Director of Welfare and Releif Mal Sani Rabiu, went round communities for a house-to-house distribution of the food items.

On their part, the beneficiaries expressed their happiness and appreciation for the gesture and prayed for Allah’s continued support for the Zakah and Waqf Foundation.
