In an effort to cushion the effect of economic hardship bedeviling the country, the Gandun Albasa General Furnitures Association (GAGFA) has distributed bags of rice to over 50 households in Kano State.
Speaking to newsmen on the motive behind the gesture, the Chairman of the Association, Nafiu Nuhu, said that the group aimed at imitating the heroic behaviors of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s move to relieve citizens of Kano from the economic hardship bedeviling the country.
Nuhu said that the governor contracted his association to produce furniture for couples of the recent mass wedding that took place in the state.
“So by way of appreciating the governor for the recognition, we decided to give back to the state through the distribution of palliatives to vulnerable households,” he said.
The association also identified the educational sector as one of the sectors prioritized by the governor and constructed a toilet with six spaces and a borehole at Al-Amin Jigirya Primary and Secondary School in Nasarawa, which lacked restrooms.
Nuhu further disclosed that the association empowered five of their members at Gandu with capital in the form of chairs worth N50,000 to strengthen their furniture business.
Beneficiaries of the intervention praised GAGFA for the gesture and called on philanthropists in Kano State to imitate the association and cooperate with the government for the prosperity of the state.
