Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state has empowered 16,010 indigenes on different agricultural intervention programmes.
Thid was disclosed at the formal launch and flag off of the programmes, held at the headquarters of Kano State Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KNARDA) on Thursday.
The programmes is in collaboration with KNARDA, Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP), SASAKAWA, APPEALS and N-CARES.
Giving the breakdown of the beneficiaries of the programme, the governor had empowered 1,000 smallholder farmers under KSADP/KNARDA on legumes value chain intervention, 440 contract spraymen, commissioning of 4 Digital Metrological Stations, supported by KSADP, among others.
Also, on the KSADP, 3,000 women were empowered on Cattle, Sheep Fattening and Goats Reproductive scheme, 1,000 empowered on Small Scale Commercial Fodder Producers and 1,000 Crip Residue Utilization beneficiaries, among others.
Others include 5,350 smallholder commercial farmers under SAKAKAWA Africa Assocition and donation of agricultural mechanization pre and post harvest equipment to 85 farmers groups, comprising 2,125 members.
Under APPEALS, 1,700 women, youths and people with special needs were supported with N2 million each to establish agricultural enterprises, just as 40 groups were empowered on modern gurasa making, a local Hausa stapple with locally-made oven.
Speaking at the occasion, governor Ganduje described the programme as a great milestone towards his administration’s agricultural derive, aimed at creating employment opportunities and providing food security in the state.
The governor added that the programmes were aimed at improving the livelihood of the farmers, especially the women and peoples with special needs.

The governor thanked the partners, especially the SASAKAWA, APPEALS, for their interventions towards agricultural revolution in the state, saying “thank you for your support and listening to our appeals in the development of agriculture in our dear state.”
He assured that the state government would continue to build strong synergy with development partners towards development of agriculture in the state.
