From Abubakar Rabilu Gombe

In celebration of Gombe State’s 28th anniversary and Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has granted clemency to several convicts across the state’s custodial centers.

Acting on recommendations from the State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, Governor Yahaya approved the unconditional release of 23 inmates. Additionally, the life sentences of two convicts were commuted to 15 years, and two death sentences were reduced to life imprisonment.

A statement issued by the Director General of Press Affairs, Isma’ila Uba Misilli, also revealed that one inmate’s sentence was reduced to 10 years, while four death row inmates had their sentences commuted to 15 years in prison.

Governor Yahaya expressed hope that this act of clemency would provide the beneficiaries with a second chance for rehabilitation and reintegration into society, contributing to the peace and development of Gombe State.

This gesture reflects the governor’s ongoing commitment to justice reform and the rehabilitation of inmates as part of his broader vision for societal progress in the state.
