The Yobe State Governor, Dr. Mai Mala Buni, has flagged off the distribution of 50,000 bags of assorted grains to vulnerable persons across the state’s 17 local government areas.

According to a statement signed by Mamman Mohammed, Director-General Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, the intervention aligns with the administration’s vision of ensuring food security and building resilience against natural disasters such as floods.

Governor Buni, while condoling with families affected by this year’s flood disaster, acknowledged the hardships posed by such calamities, especially during the farming cycle between planting and harvest when many farmers have exhausted their food stocks.

The grains were distributed to primary school teachers, healthcare workers, persons with special needs, Tsangaya Mallams, vulnerable members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), junior cadre civil servants, staff of tertiary institutions, employees of teaching and specialist hospitals, as well as thousands of other vulnerable persons across the 17 LGAs.

Governor Buni reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to agricultural development as a driver of economic growth, food sufficiency, and security. He stressed that irrigation farming would remain a priority in boosting productivity to achieve food security and prosperity in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Muhammad Goje, commended Governor Buni for his consistent support to vulnerable groups. Similarly, the World Food Programme (WFP) and other development agencies lauded the governor for his efforts in strengthening food supply to those in need.

Meanwhile, Governor Buni directed individuals allocated shops at the Senator Geidam Modern Market in Damaturu to commence business operations immediately or risk revocation of their allocations.
