Kano state Governor, Alh. Abba Kabir Yusuf, announced the appointment of Abdullahi Maikaba as the new Technical Adviser for Kano Pillars during an unveiling ceremony held today at the State Government House.
The event was chaired by the State Deputy Governor, Comr. Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, representing the Governor.
Governor Abba reiterated the high regard his administration holds for football and pledged continued support to Kano Pillars in their mission to discover and nurture young talent within the state.
Impressed by Maikaba’s track record, the Governor urged the new Technical Adviser to utilize his expertise to restore Kano Pillars to their former position in the league table and propel the team to the top of the league.
During the ceremony, Umar Babangida, Chairman of Kano Pillars Caretaker Committee, appealed to the State Government for the renovation of Sani Abacha stadium, which is in need of refurbishment.
Babangida expressed his confidence in Maikaba’s return to the club as a blessing for its progress and the development of the state’s youth.
In his address, Abdullahi Maikaba expressed gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Deputy Comr. Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, and the Management of Kano Pillars for considering him worthy of leading the team.
As a native of Kano, he pledged to utilize his extensive experience in the football arena to elevate the status of Kano Pillars to new heights.
Responding to the appeal for stadium renovation, the Governor assured that the request would be taken into serious consideration to provide a more comfortable environment for the players.
Abdullahi Maikaba, a seasoned figure in the world of football, began his journey as a classroom teacher at Rumfa College and later transitioned into coaching, leaving an indelible mark on various clubs and teams.
Notably, he served as the coach of Buffalo football club and played a crucial role in training the successful set of Kano Pillars, leading them to their first trophy triumph. His expertise extended further, with two stints as an assistant coach for Pillars and coaching positions with Wiki Tourists of Bauchi, Plateau United, Enyimba F.C of Abia state, and Enugu Rangers.
He also contributed to the national team, having served as an assistant coach for the Super Eagles. His impact on the sport goes beyond the pitch, as he has mentored numerous players who have gone on to excel both at the national and international levels, cementing his legacy as a remarkable mentor and football influencer.
