By Hamisu Ado Nguru

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, inaugurated the commencement of two significant road projects on Monday in a grand ceremony.

The projects include the construction of a 4 km road from Karasuwa Galu town to the Nguru-Gashua federal highway, costing N1.3 billion, and a 25 km stretch from Gashua to Masaba, with an estimated budget of N4.4 billion.

Governor Buni emphasized that these road constructions are part of the ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure development, promote socio-economic growth, and foster prosperity in the state.

Once completed, the newly constructed roads will facilitate the efficient transportation of goods and services, particularly agricultural produce such as millet, Guinea corn, beans, sesame, and melon seeds, which are extensively cultivated in the region.

GREYLAND Multiple Investment Ltd., a reputable construction firm known for its adherence to contractual specifications and timely project completion, was awarded the contract for both road projects.

The governor expressed confidence in the company’s ability to deliver quality work, noting that construction had already commenced before the official flag-off ceremony.

The Karasuwa Galu to Nguru-Gashua federal highway road project has a total cost of N1,350,292,445.89 and is expected to be completed within six months. Governor Buni urged GREYLAND Multiple Investment Ltd. to strictly comply with the contractual terms and urged the State Ministry of Works to ensure proper supervision to ensure value for money.

Governor Buni took a moment to offer his condolences to the people of Karasuwa local government following the recent passing of the late council chairman, Hon. Lawan Gana Karasuwa.

He acknowledged the chairman’s selfless contributions and sacrifices made for the community, the local government, and the entire state. The governor expressed hope that the road project would fulfill the late chairman’s vision and benefit the people of Karasuwa Galu and neighboring communities.

In conclusion, Governor Buni called upon the communities to extend their support to the government and the contractor to ensure the successful execution of the road projects. He also urged the citizens to pray for favorable rainfall for a prosperous cropping season and protection from floods.

The official flag-off ceremony for the construction of the road connecting Karasuwa Galu to the Nguru-Gashua federal highway took place on Monday, July 17, 2023, marking a significant milestone towards improved infrastructure in Yobe State.
