Abule-Ori, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State was thrown into a state of shock and mourning as daredevil gunmen stormed a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) parish, resulting in the death of the pastor and the abduction of seven church members during a vigil.
The Commander of the Ogun State So-Safe Corps, Mr Soji Ganzallo, confirmed the distressing incident to reporters in Abeokuta on Sunday.
Ganzallo revealed that the men of the corps swiftly responded to the situation, successfully rescuing the seven church members and managing to neutralize one of the kidnappers during a daring rescue operation.
In a statement released to the press by the So-Safe Director of Information and Public Relations, Moruf Yusuf, Ganzallo detailed that the terrifying ordeal unfolded at approximately 12:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Ganzallo further disclosed that the rescued victims were unharmed, while one of the kidnappers met his demise.
Additionally, he reported that several of the suspects sustained serious injuries during a fierce exchange of gunfire.
With the aim of bringing the fleeing kidnappers to justice, Ganzallo stated that a joint team comprising the police and the So-Safe Corps had launched an intensive manhunt.
The body of the deceased kidnapper has been transported to a nearby morgue, as investigations into the horrifying incident continue.
