Gwarzo Youth Community Express Concern over Rampant Partying Culture in Schools

By Mustapha Salisu

The Gwarzo Youth Community Forum (GYCOF) has raised alarm over the growing trend of rampant partying among pupils and students in both primary and secondary schools across Kano State.

In a formal letter addressed to PRIME TIME NEWS by the Forum’s Chairman, Abba Ado Salihi, the group appealed for urgent intervention to create awareness on the dangers of excessive social gatherings that are increasingly taking priority over academic pursuits among young learners.

The forum noted that the worrisome development is gradually eroding the moral and academic foundation of the younger generation. According to the group, many students now prioritize social events and peer-influenced parties above their studies, thereby exposing themselves to immoral behaviors, substance abuse, and peer pressure.

“The trend not only threatens academic performance but also poses a great danger to the future of our society,” the group warned.

GYCOF further emphasized the vital role of the media in addressing the menace, describing it as a trusted platform that can draw public attention and sensitize parents, teachers, community leaders, and policymakers on the need for urgent corrective measures.

They recommended awareness campaigns, public discussions, and expert contributions as effective ways to curb the culture, while also redirecting the energy of young people towards education, discipline, and moral upbringing.

“We have written to Kano State Ministry of Education, SUBEB, Kano State Senior Secondary School Management Board, the State Private and Voluntary Institutions Board, Kano State Hisbah Board, and the Kano State Council of Ulama for urgent attention on the matter as well as for action to be taken” Chairman of the Forum noted

The youth forum expressed optimism that with collaborative efforts, the negative culture can be curtailed, thereby safeguarding the academic and moral well-being of future generations.
