HIV/AIDS: NACA partner to continue preventive, curative interventions

Mr Alban Anonyuo, the President of Renewed Initiative Against Diseases and Poverty (RENAGAIDS) promised to continue to partner with National Agency for Control of AIDS (NACA) through preventive and curative interventions in the fight against the scourge.

He made the promise in reaction to change in the leadership of NACA in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday.

Former Director-General of the agency, Prof. Sani Aliyu, resigned his appointment one year to the end of his tenure.

President Muhammadu Buhari, therefore, approved the appointment of Dr Gambo Aliyu as the new Director-General.

Anonyuo, who is also a NACA partner in the fight against the scourge, described the former director general as a purposeful leader, said he would miss his innovations and ideas in the fight
against HIV/AIDS.

He, however, expressed confidence in the capacity of the agency to continue to make more exploits under the new director-general.

He added that “there are plans prepared to last for years and the plans do not change even if the leadership changes, unless they are reviewed.”

The NACA partner, therefore, reiterated his determination to support the new director-general to deliver on his mandate.

Dr Gambo Aliyu is an epidemiologist and Public Health Specialist.

He attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery in 1995, and later proceeded to University of Maryland to obtain a PhD in Epidemiology in 2012. (NAN)
