The Jigawa State College of Education, Gumel, has matriculated 420 new undergraduate students at its School of Undergraduate Studies.

The Provost of the college, Dr. Nura Muhammad Ringim, stated that the program, affiliated with Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has admitted its 11th set of undergraduates as part of efforts to produce qualified teachers for the state and the nation at large.

“These 420 newly admitted students will undergo degree programs in various educational and teaching disciplines after meeting all the admission requirements and processes of the college in affiliation with Bayero University, Kano,” he said.

Dr. Ringim highlighted that the college possesses the necessary capacity and facilities to train undergraduates, ensuring they graduate with quality degrees comparable to those from any institution in the country.

He commended the Jigawa State government for its prompt actions to improve the education system, including the review and increase of annual scholarship awards for students.

The Provost also appreciated the government’s support in securing approval from Bayero University’s Senate for five additional degree programs at the college.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas, the Dean of the Islamic Studies and Sharia Department, Prof. Salihu Lawan, praised the dedication and commitment of the college staff in discharging their duties. He described the college as the leading institution conducting BUK-affiliated programs.

Earlier, the Registrar of the college, Malam Bala Isyaku, attributed the institution’s achievements to the support and cooperation provided by the state government under Governor Umar Namadi. He affirmed that the college will continue to produce graduates capable of competing with their peers nationwide.

“The college is committed to addressing the national challenge of unqualified teachers by producing competent graduates,” Malam Isyaku noted.

He emphasized that Governor Namadi’s support for education, one of his 12-point agenda priorities, has been instrumental in the institution’s success.

The Registrar called on stakeholders to support the college in maintaining and expanding its programs, not only in education but also in other critical human development sectors.
