Residents of Tage village in Kafin Hausa Local Government Area of Jigawa state on Monday, took the bull by its horn while resisting an armed robbery attack on Hadejia highway.
The resistance by the members of the community led to the arrest of one of the hoodlums while others took to their heels.
An eye witness who spoke to newsmen disclosed that the community members inflicted serious matchet cuts on one of the robbers.
Confirming the incident, Police spokesman, DSP. Lawan Shiisu Adam affirmed they received information that a gang of armed robbers blocked Tage to the Hadejia highway and robbed people of their belongings.
Adam elucidated that policemen were mobilized to the scene “and found that a group of people gathered and faced the hoodlums, and as a result, they inflicted serious matchet cuts on one of the robbers by name Abdullahi Abubakar of Hago village.”
The spokesperson said the police saved the wounded robber and took him to General Hospital Kafin Hausa for treatment.
He said life ammunition, one expended cartridge, and the sum of thirty-seven thousand naira (N37,000.00k) were recovered from the suspect.
Adam equally assured that an inquiry was going on to arrest the other suspects.
