Jigawa Govt. flags off distribution of palliatives to poor and vulnerable
Jigawa State government has disbursed one billion Naira and eighty million naira to poor and vulnerable people, elderly, Pwds, and orphans as grant.
In the same vein, the state also distributed 47,410 fifty kilogram of rice 33,330 cartons of spaghetti and 8,300 bags of maize.
Speaking during the distribution exercise held in Gumel Local Government, Governor Umar Namadi says the disbursement is in continuation of the government efforts to cushion the economic hardship occasioned by the inflationary trend that came with the withdrawal of the petroleum subsidy in the country.
Malam Umar Namadi explained that one hundred and eight thousand people would benefit from the grant as four thousand beneficiaries will be given ten thousand naira in each of the 27 local governments.
He pointed out that providing palliatives of this nature is only a direct and short term intervention meant to serve as a safety net, adding that the state government and the federal government are working on more comprehensive interventions in form of policies, programs and projects that would provide long term sustainable solutions to the socio economic challenges being faced by the people.
The governor assured the people of Jigawa State that adequate arrangement has been put in place to ensure accountability, transparency as well as equity in the distribution of the palliatives.
He added that a twelve man committee has been set up to coordinate and supervise the process saying that members of the include members of the state House of assembly, Local Government Chairmen, Commissioners , Technical Advisers ,Security agencies, religious leaders and Traditional Rulers
Malam Umar Namadi assured that the state government, under his leadership, would continue to do it best to achieve sustainable improvement in the social and economic wellbeing of the people.
He enjoined people in the state to be patient, law abiding, and prayerful.
In his welcome address, the Executive Secretary of Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency Dr. Haruna MaiRiga says the gesture is a clear testimony of Malam Umar Namadi administration’s to cushion the hardship being faced by the people.
