Jigawa LG Council assures more support to FIRS

The 27 local government in Jigawa state, assured their readiness to cooperate with Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS), for the success of the National VAT and Withholding Tax Monitoring Exercise.

The Commissioner for Local Government Ahmed Garba MK made the statement while meeting with the FIRS  Delegation team at the conference Hall of the Ministry.

He said for the past one month, there have been a series of discussions with the state coordinator of the Exercise on the conduct of the program, and the ministry is ready to give the maximum cooperation because one of the key responsibilities of governance is to maintain and ensued righteousness in its spans.

The commissioner also drew the attention of the key Local Government concerned officers on the danger associated with tax avoidance, which he said must no longer be tolerated under his stewardship.

According to him, new modalities would be designed to ensure tax collection from the Local Governments is maintained as something easily dealt with.

MK then said the present administration of  Governor Umar A. Namadi always stands to operate guided by transparency, accountability and due process. He called on the Local Governments concerned with the exercise to accord the delegation maximum cooperation for the successful conduct of the program.

In his earlier address, the state monitor and the leader of the delegation from the Tax Collection agency, Alh. Rilwanu Musa gave the reason why they visited the Ministry for the conduct of the exercise, which is a national program, and it is being conducted in all 36 states of the federation.

He thanked the commissioner for his fatherly intervention and promised to cooperate kindly with the Local Governments for the success of the exercise.

The meeting was also attended by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Ibrahim Adamu Kakas, and the Director of Local Government inspection, Muhammad Yusha’u Jaji among other key personalities.
