Jigawa ranks among the best on budget Transparency

Jigawa state emerged among the best states on budget transparency as recorded by Nigerian State Budget Transparency Survey.

This was contained in a National Survey Documents presented at the official Unavailing of the report for the Northwest state held at Ahmadu Bello Hall Dutse Jigawa State.

The occasion was organized by Jigawa base Civil Society Elip-Initiative known as ( PMP) in collaboration with other civil societies in the state and the zone.

The report stated that, findings has shown that there is significantly improved budget transparency and participation and the robustness of the procurement process. among the Nigerian state.

“Nigerian State Budget Transparency has conducted an Independent survey and assessment base on international agreed principles of good financial management and measured the opportunities provided for public participation in budget process ,access to budget information and procurement process”.

According to the survey index Jigawa state emerged first with a score of 90, followed by Kaduna state with 67/and Ondo state with 65, while Akwa Ibom,and states each scored above 60 points

“12 states improved by 20 point and 18 states improved with at least 1 point while Zamfara and Oyo state scored as they provided almost no any budget information”

In his speech the state deputy governor Malam.Umar Namadi expressed his happiness about the report which proved that, APC is operating all inclusive and open governance with mutual transperancy in Jigawa state.

He promised to continue engaging with civil society and general public to deliver Jigawa state to promising land in according to APC philosophy.

Speaking at the presentation the chairman PMP Comrade Isa Mustapha said, the project was initiated by world bank aims at encouraging the state to be more transparent and realistic in their budget preparation and implementation.

He noted that, the process was entirely not a fault finding but it is purely designed to improve government and public engagement for social, economic and democratic development in Nigeria.
