The Jigawa Social Protection Platform (JISOP) has called for the swift implementation of the reviewed social security support for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and elderly people in Jigawa State.
This appeal was contained in a statement signed by the platform’s chairman, Comrade Shu’aibu Musa Kafin-Gana, and made available to journalists in Dutse.
“We urge relevant ministries, agencies, and parastatals to expedite the implementation of this laudable initiative approved by the governor, as it will address critical issues such as poverty and insecurity,” the statement read.
JISOP commended Governor Malam Umar Namadi for reviewing and submitting the amended Social Security Law No. 06, 2007, to the Jigawa State House of Assembly.
The platform hailed the expansion of the PWDs enrollment from 151 to 200 beneficiaries per local government, increasing the total beneficiaries across the 27 local government areas from 4,347 to 5,400.
It also praised the governor for increasing the monthly social security allowance for PWDs from ₦7,000 to ₦10,000.
Additionally, the platform lauded the introduction of a social protection scheme for elderly people, which will register 20 beneficiaries per ward, totaling 5,740 beneficiaries across 287 wards. Each elderly beneficiary will also receive ₦10,000 monthly.
JISOP, comprising civil society organizations, media, academia, ethnic minorities, and PWDs, is committed to promoting social protection and inclusiveness in Jigawa State.
