Kano CoP Strengthens Advocacy for Zero-Dose Children
The Kano State Community of Practice (CoP) on immunization has made significant progress in addressing the issue of zero-dose children and missed communities through its Zero Dose Learning Hub project, utilizing advocacy strategies.
During a quarterly review meeting on immunization budget tracking, accountability, and sustainability, Dr. Musa Muhammad Bello, the state’s focal person, highlighted that the CoP’s advocacy efforts have enhanced relationships with the Kano State House of Assembly, ministries, and MDAs.
“This has secured permanent slots for CoP members in public hearings on budget processes” he noted.
Dr. Bello further explained that the strengthened partnerships with the Ministry of Budget have improved the CoP members’ understanding of the budget process, while collaborations with the Ministry of Health have promoted budget transparency and increased awareness of zero-dose children among stakeholders.
AHBN Coordinator, Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba, praised the CoP’s achievements and emphasized the importance of continued advocacy for immunization funding and accountability to improve coverage in missed communities.
The CoP is an initiative of the Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN), under the Zero Dose Learning Hub project, implemented by AHBN and AFENET, and funded by GAVI.
