The Kano State Deputy Governor, Comr. Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, on Tuesday visited Gaya Local Government Area to inspect the proposed site for the establishment of a new Polytechnic in the region.
Comr. Gwarzo who also doubles as the Commissioner for Higher Education revealed the gesture is part of the state government’s efforts to strengthen education sector under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
During the visit, the Deputy Governor extolled Gaya as a town with a rich history of Islamic scholarship and commercial activities, particularly its renowned iron smelting tradition, describing it as the “gateway of education” to Kano State.
He noted that the decision to site the Polytechnic in Gaya was therefore both strategic and symbolic, serving as a way for the state government to give back to a community that has contributed immensely to the growth and development of Kano.
Comr. Abdussalam assured the people of Gaya that all necessary arrangements had been concluded and that construction work would soon commence to ensure the immediate take-off of the institution.
He further disclosed that establishing the institution in the town would boost socio-economic development, stressing that once work begins, the community would witness significant progress and prosperity.
“With the establishment of the Polytechnic, banks, business cafés, student lodges, fashion designers, restaurants, and other enterprises are expected to spring up in Gaya town” Comr. Gwarzo said.
He also urged political leaders in the area to continue supporting the state government in its commitment to delivering meaningful projects in Gaya and across Kano State.
The Deputy Governor was warmly received by the Chairman of Gaya Local Government, Hon. Mahmud Tajo Gaya, together with party leaders and elected councilors.
The Chairman commended the Kano State Government for choosing Gaya as the site for the institution and pledged to mobilize all necessary resources from his office to ensure its smooth take-off
Other highlights of the visit included paying homage to the Emir of Gaya, Alhaji (Dr.) Aliyu Ibrahim Gaya, by the Deputy Governor and his entourage.
