Kano governor empowers 465 street hawkers

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has empowered 465 street hawkers in Kano metropolis with a capital of fifty thousand naira each, drawn from nine clusters within the city.

This was contained in a statement signed by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa on Wednesday

According to the statement, the event was held at Coronation Hall, Government House.

The statement added that the beneficiaries, who specialize in hawking items such as car decorations, accessories, and kitchen utensils, were praised for their determination to earn a decent living without resorting to crime, violence, or drug addiction.

In his address, the Governor emphasized the importance of supporting vulnerable groups, particularly youth and women, through occasional interventions aimed at improving their trades and skills.

“The empowerment was borne out of the priority my administration accords to vulnerable groups,” the governor stated.

He also highlighted a recent initiative where the Kano State Government empowered 5,200 women with fifty thousand naira each, totaling 26 million naira.

“The initiative had started yielding positive results as the socio-economic status of the beneficiaries has increased,” Yusuf noted.

Governor Yusuf commended the beneficiaries, describing them as patriots who through thick and thin faced the challenges of poverty and deprivation by treading the path of honor, dignity, and respect.

He acknowledged their efforts to save and support their families, establish households, and even pursue educational dreams despite their modest daily earnings.

The governor urged the hawkers to use the funds wisely to expand their businesses.

He highlighted the potential positive impact on the state’s economy.
