The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education to drive entrepreneurship and skills development.

The State Deputy Governor Comr. Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo made this known at the 12th National Conference of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Northwest Zone, held at Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies (KASCEPS).

Speaking on the theme “Integration of Artificial Intelligence in Education for Entrepreneurship and Skills Development in Nigeria,” he said AI is already reshaping economies and must be embraced in the education sector.

He stressed that AI can personalize learning, automate tasks, and provide insights to improve education. It also opens doors for students to learn in-demand skills like robotics and data analytics.

The Deputy Governor noted that under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, education remains a top priority for sustainable development and youth empowerment.

He revealed that the government has launched several digital initiatives, including the Kano State Information Technology Development Agency and a repositioned Ministry of Science and Technology.

According to him, these reforms aim to boost digital governance, infrastructure, innovation, and cybersecurity across the state.

He said the state is reviewing tertiary curricula to include AI, cybersecurity, and renewable energy, in line with global trends.

Gwarzo added that entrepreneurship programs are being strengthened to produce job creators, not just job seekers.

Workshops are also being held to train teachers on digital literacy and AI use in classrooms.

He disclosed that the government is engaging tech companies and global partners to support e-learning and smart classrooms in Kano.

The Deputy Governor called on stakeholders at the conference to support these efforts and help shape a future-ready education system.

While also delivering his goodwill message at the event, the Provost of KASCEPS, Assoc. Prof. Sanusi Yakubu Ahmad, commended the state government for its commitment to advancing education.

Meanwhile, Professor Abdallah Uba Adamu from the Department of Mass Communication and Media Studies at Bayero University Kano presented the keynote paper.

His presentation, titled “From Blackboard to Chatbots: The Role of AI in the Education System,” offered deep insights into the dynamics of teaching and learning in the era of technological transformation.

In recognition of the contributions to educational development, COEASU presented awards to several dignitaries, including the state’s Deputy Governor, for their excellent service and dedication.

The event brought together lecturers, educationists, and stakeholders, marking a significant step in the collaborative effort to transform Nigeria’s education sector through innovative technology.
