The Kano State Government has distributed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) through the Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC) to all health facilities and hospitals across the 44 Local Government Areas of the state.
This was revealed in a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano Centre for Disease Control, Muhammad Dayyabu, and made available to journalists on Thursday.
“In a bold demonstration of commitment to public health and emergency preparedness, the Kano State Government, under the purposeful leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has, through the KNCDC led by its Director-General, Prof. Muhammad Abbas, distributed Personal Protective Equipment to all 44 Local Government Areas of the state through Disease Surveillance and Notification Officers,” he said.
According to him, the distributed items are essential tools for frontline disease prevention and response. The items include aprons, face masks, goggles, hand gloves, and sanitizers, among others.
The Director-General of the KNCDC, Prof. Muhammad Abbas, speaking on behalf of Governor Yusuf, emphasized that the availability of protective equipment is crucial to safeguarding healthcare workers and ensuring a swift and effective emergency response.
He added that rather than piling the materials in the state capital, Governor Yusuf has strategically distributed them to hospitals and health facilities across the 44 LGAs to enable quick response to outbreaks, thereby saving critical time and lives.
The Director-General commended local government chairmen for their cooperation and reiterated the governor’s call to the media, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community leaders to continue collaborating with the State Government and the Kano Centre for Disease Control in strengthening disease prevention and public health awareness.
“This strategic intervention further underscores the resolve of the Abba Kabir Yusuf–led administration to strengthen health security, empower frontline responders, and protect the well-being of all residents of Kano State,” he added.
The distribution exercise was attended by the State Epidemiologist, senior officials of the Kano State Centre for Disease Control, and media representatives.
