The Kano State Government has inaugurated a 15-member technical committee to oversee the establishment of a polytechnic in Gaya.

The committee was inaugurated by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, who also serves as the state Commissioner for Higher Education.

Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen today.

Speaking at the event, Comrade Gwarzo charged members of the committee to work diligently and strictly adhere to their terms of reference.

The committee is chaired by Dr. Hadi Bala Yahaya, the Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Higher Education, while Shehu Sani Dauda, the ministry’s Director of Administration and General Services, will serve as secretary.

Among the committee’s responsibilities are assessing existing infrastructure at the proposed site, preparing a bill of quantities for required additional facilities, drafting a bill for the polytechnic’s establishment, developing an academic brief, and creating a physical master plan for the institution.

The committee is also expected to recommend resources needed for the successful take-off of the polytechnic, co-opt additional members for advisory purposes where necessary, and address other related matters pertinent to the assignment.

It has been given a two-week deadline from the date of inauguration to submit its report.
