Kano State Government has unveiled plans to strengthen women led small and medium enterprises by establishing modern shoes , bags and leatherwork factory.
The Commissioner for Commerce and Investment, Hon. Shehu Wada Sagagi, said the project will reinforce Kano’s position as Nigeria’s commercial hub while preserving its centuries-old leather craftsmanship.
Hon. Sagagi added that, these communities are Chiromawa, Zage, Dukawa, Kofar Wambai, and Sharifai has maintained the traditional aspect of producing handmade shoes, bags, and other leather goods for over 300 years as traced .
According to Sagagi, the initiative aligns with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s economic blueprint, which prioritizes women’s empowerment and investment.
The factory will offer training, access to modern machinery, and production capacity that will meet global standards for importation to various africa countries .
This is a life time investment that will help tp reduce unemployment among women, with target to single mothers and divorcees, which we are calling on investors to partner with us,” he said.
Sagagi added that, the government will utilize advanced machines, including some abandoned ones by the previous administrations, as part of the project’s rollout.
Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi also assured that , the factory will be established in a short period as the governor’s aims are to eradicates poverty in the state.
